Over the weekend, one of our employees (Erin) discovered an old box, which resembled to be an old telephone mount box. She opened it up and discovered a piece of phone history! A Kellogg phone to be exact.
In the 1880’s, Milo Kellogg was a manager at the Western Electric and the Southern Telephone and Telegraph Company. Later, he then decidedto become a manufacturer himself once he noticed that Alexander Graham Bell’s patent for the telephones would be up for expiration. In 1897, basedin Chicago, Illinois, he opened the Kellogg Switchboard and Supply Company. During the companies history, Milo held more than 150 patents. One of them was the invention of the Divided Multiple telephone switchboard. This switchboard offered greater flexibility and efficiency than previous designs in handling large numbers of telephone subscribers at each urban exchange. Kellogg Switchboard & Supply primarily supplied local independent telephone companies.
Overall, the company flourished in the early 20th century. The company introduced the Relaymatic automatic switching system (1939) and a crossbar switching system (1950). Eventually, the ITT Corporation purchased a controlling interest into the Kellogg Switchboard & Supply Co. in 1951, which gave them a new brand identity called, ITT Kellogg, which lasted a decade. The name or brand-name was flip flopped though in the later years, from ITT Telecommunications to ITT Kellogg till the late 1980′s. In 1989, the ITT company sold all of its telecommunications product lines, including ITT Kellogg to Alcatel (Alcatel-Lucent). What is left of the company is now with and owned by Cortelco, the name of the product became Cortelco Kellogg. Cortelco was later acquired based on an agreement with eOn Communications on December 12, 2008.
Erin, plans to help her family refurbish the old telephone and use it as decor in the backyard. Pictures of the completed project will follow.

It is important today to have a high speed internet service, whether it is in the home or in the office. Many devices now rely on high speed internet connections. The rate of speed will determine how your devices will perform and work. We all want them to be fast and efficient. If you feel you are disappointed by your internet speeds, then you should shop around if you have options. Thanks to PCMag’s research, we now know who provides the fastest internet service based on their 2013 service review.
So who was the fastest internet provider of 2013? The answer is Verizon FiOS. It is the absolute fastest nationwide broadband service. Based on this discovery, consumers are wanting Verizon FiOS as their internet provider, but unfortunately Verizon has no plans to expand to different locations, as of yet. FiOS download time went up to 34.5 Mbps compared to last year’s average of 29.4 Mbps.
Are you wondering who is number two? For the 2nd time in a row, Midcontinent Communications (also known as Midco) stood up to the bigger dogs and came in 2nd place for having the fastest internet service. This provider offers a serious internet service for an outstanding price.
The chart below highlights the top 10 fastest internet providers out there.
Cable companies and others are still battling for that number one spot and they will continue to one up each other. Because of this endless battle, internet speeds will continue to rise, so hopefully 2014 will bring faster speeds to everyone.
With the family in town and the holidays around the corner, emergencies pop up in the worst of times. To be prepared, we are excited to announce that our all-new E911 system is now active and that activations and address updates are now customer manageable without contacting Customer Support. Activation and updating is free and easy.
What is Enhanced 911?
E911 is similar to calling 911 from your mobile phone. It not only connects emergency calls to the appropriate emergency management office or police, but also shares your account name and address with the dispatcher. Activating your E911 Address allow us to know where to connect the call, even if the address and area code do not share the same area code.
Activating E911 Address
If you are a current customer, you can activate or update your E911 Address by completing this form. This is a free service and accessible to all customers. Without E911 activated for your account, emergency calls may not connect or may be subject to a fine.
