Platform – New Features for January

Last month we rolled out our Platform Advanced update which launched an intuitive new interface for managing your service and features. If you missed it, you can read more about it here. It’s chocked full of exciting new features and a modern new look.

As promised, we have some exciting new updates to share for January too. Take a look around, and here are a few we’d like to spotlight:

Text to Speech

When building a menu or media (that’s a spoken message), you can now use Text to Speech with customizable voices and languages.

This feature can be found in the Play Media feature within Callflow App or SmartPBX’s Virtual Receptionist.

Sending Faxes

Now available for all users, Fax Box allows you to receive and now Send faxes from any number.

You can enable this feature within Call Flow’s Fax Box section, or add a Fax Box for each user in SmartPBX.

Presence

With more phones shipping with more buttons, many harken to think about the “good old days” when you could see someone else busy on the phone. Our presence feature is just that, but advanced enough to know when any one user’s phone or apps are in-use, or just monitor a special phone or app, easily.

Introducing Appointments

Our concierge-style approach to support and on-boarding is easily one our best signatures features, and we wanted to make it even easier to get more on your schedule.

Introducing Appointments, a simple, on-demand feature to schedule a Specialist on your time. Just pick an available time, choose a subject from training to support, and we’ll call you on time to help. This new support feature is free to all customers.

Hello Simple Phone Co. family!

This Friday March 4th, we are taking the day off… to spend the entire day devoted to you. Yes you, here’s the background… Introducing Refresh Day!

We love supporting our customers differently, and we are challenging ourselves by taking an entire day to devote ourself to work on doing more of just that. Projects, re-organization, development updates from our Dev team, and more are all scheduled to kick the day off. Our experiment and mission is to o come together to connect for one full day (chosen as one of our slowest days of the month), and challenge ourselves to develop, train, and work on how to further improve our resources, teams, and more.

As a follow-up we’ll post the outcome of this experiment because it’s a little different and exciting. Most importantly– since our regular scheduled programming will be different for one day, our support line won’t ring as it usually does. We wanted to let you know what to expect if you need help, or have a service issue. We’ll monitor new and updated support requests made at help.simplephoneco.com and by email at help@simplephoneco.com. Our support calls will go to a special voicemail, so if you need to report trouble, we’ll be watching for these support requests and messages.

Today we sent this exciting update to our customers:

It’s not often you get a real hand written email from your phone company, but we’re not like other phone companies… We’re excited for the new year, because 2016 is going to be very fun. To kick the new year off, we have some exciting changes and announcements that will launch today, and more news and enhancements coming in the months ahead.

Streamlined Services

We’re doubling down on Hosted, our most popular and fastest growing service since our launch. Over time, Virtual Fax and Simple Phone (our single line service) have become less and less popular as email replaces faxing and mobile phones replace home phones. But the disruption in business and team communications continues, and we’re fully focused on it.

To mind that focus, we’re talking our Hosted Phone and Hosted Platform on as our primary service and focus, bringing Virtual Fax and Conference Line in as supporting add-on services. Simple Phone will be available by request, and will called Simple Line. Our new site has been updated to align this focus, and provide an even simpler way to learn and use our services.

Simplified Pricing

With a streamlined focus on a our updated services, we’re also simplifying pricing too. Our pricing until now was based on resource cost, which isn’t the case any longer. Lines are now just $25 per-line at any quantity, down from starting at $30 a month. Every line now also includes 1 free local or toll-free number, and extra numbers are just $3 each.

As always, there are no contracts or commitments, no tiers or tax, and personal support is always included at no additional cost.

We’ll be updating billing plans for existing customers starting in February 2016. Because every plan and account is a little different in size and numbers, a few customers who many see a slight change in price under our new pricing. For these customers we’ll match the lower price you have now until you change or update services. More details about this change will be sent on a per-account basis in January, and feel free to contact us about any questions you may have.

Personalized Support

To carry our difference forward, we’re continuing to develop and invest in Personalized Support. New customers will benefit from our free Personal Setup, plus new and existing customers can schedule free one-on-one Personal Trainings. Our new Personal Training subjects include themes from Getting Start, New Phone Introductions, and walk-throughs of our Platform.

Enhanced Systems

As we continue to grow and focus on a simplified solution and pricing, built on uniquely personalized support, we’ve also made critical investments and upgrades to both our network, carrier partners, and Platform phone system. This month we’ll upgrade our servers and data centers with significantly increased capacity and resource for the years ahead. Investments in capacity and quality is just one of our ongoing development missions to always maintain the best phone quality and calling available, powered by the most powerful and intuitive systems.

With the year nearing an end, and the festive activity of the holiday season setting in, we’ve had an unbelievable year to think back on. We’re so thankful to all of customers and partners, and to put it simply; we have grown in every way imaginable. With that, we also excited to share that we have a new home in the Historic Downtown Fullerton’s “Dean Block”.

In short review, and a promise for a more detailed report soon, in just the past 10 months alone we’ve nearly doubled our team, exponentially expanded our network, launched our new Platform, introduced several new services, a stunning new site, and out grown our little offices in Costa Mesa.

We set out a few months ago to prepare for our next chapter, with a couple of upcoming missions and project in mind ahead. The first is about the community; we want to be a part of a new movement in Orange County centered on innovation and support for start-ups, creative types, and more. We are long fans and frequent guests of events like Start-up Grind Orange County, various Meetup.com events, and other activities hosted by our friends at TechSpace not to mention others. The second is that we simply needed more room for our growing service, and increasing focus on building the most amazing experience in communications, and how you use our services in your home and business everyday. Our mission was to find a space for our growing team, a walkable community, transportation friendly, inspirational space, and fun gathering place for our new projects.

After reviewing the local space available in nearby beach-y areas, downtown commerce zones like Santa Ana and Orange, we discovered 111 N. Harbor Blvd. above the award winning Matador restaurant in Downtown Fullerton. The “Dean Block”, built in 1899 was originally home to the Dean Hardware Company in the late 19th century. It’s brick walls are stunning, each telling a unique story of the 100+ years this building has been serving the community of Fullerton. Steps away you’ll find the buzz of Fullerton College and CSU Fullerton, the Fullerton Transportation Center (built in 1923 and serving regional rail service), and a slew of amazing culinary adventures and coffee shops.

During the month of December, we’ll begin building out and moving our operations to our new home. We’ve been incredibly grateful for the love and support of the Tech Space Costa Mesa family (and I truly mean family) that we opened our first office with just a few years ago. With so many memories behind us, and some incredible experiences ahead, the future of Simple Phone Company and the start-up community in Orange County has never been brighter.

shopscreenshotEarly last year we launched a new site dubbed the Simple Phone Store with the mission to provide an easy window to shop and research phones compatible with VoIP services. Naturally the site was popular for our Hosted Phone customers, but we also learned a great deal about how users shop for new equipment in 2014. While the original vision was provide any and all options and brand, it became clear customers wanted only a few options of our best to offer, and preferred a streamline “in one sale” solution for joining us.

With all that we learned this past year, we’re excited to relaunch our new site with our newly integrated Shop pages. With the new Shop, you can order equipment and service in one simple checkout, plus order additional equipment for existing services with the same free activation as many of our first time customers order at the start.

When designing the Shop, we decided to carry only 2 preferred brands with the intention of only carrying models we’d recommend ourselves in both “value-added” and “premium” flavors. Our picks include a great selection from Grandstream and Polycom, with Panasonic for cordless solutions. We’ll keep our offerings to date as new models emerge, with the goal of only selling the best to offer, at the best price, with free activation/setup, and free ground shipping.

Status Getting an immediate look and transparent view into the status of planned and unplanned maintenance work is now easier than ever. Like many other like-minded tech companies that believe in providing clear and honest updates to real issue tracking, we’ve partnered with StatusPage.io to provide realtime network and trouble status monitoring for current and past known issues.

Our new status page is hosted by our third party partner, and our engineering team will report known issues and updates to communicate with you, and our team in realtime. We believe this new feature, and transparent initiative will give our customers the same accurate and quick access to information just as quickly as our customer support team. Being open and honest about known issues will also shed a real light on the high quality service and network we continue to build everyday.
